PRINCETON, N.J.- The Bucknell Bison women's water polo team lost 23-10 to three-seed Harvard on Saturday. Chloe Smith led the Bison with three goals, but the Crimson attack proved too powerful for the Bison.Â
The Bison scored first off a Bella Schraa goal. But the lead did not last long as Harvard raced to a 6-1 lead. After the first quarter, Gwen Kallmeyer stopped the streak with a goal, but Harvard tallied another score for a 7-2 advantage.Â
The Crimson repeated their first-period scoring total to have 14 goals at halftime. The Bison scored three goals in response thanks to Kallmeyer, Schraa, and Smith, each depositing a ball into the back of the net.Â
Harvard slightly cooled off in the third quarter scoring five goals. Bucknell again totaled three goals off scoring efforts from Megan LaCroix, leading scorer Isabella Monaghan, and Smith.Â
The Crimson padded their lead with four more goals in the final period. Bucknell scored twice thanks to Bella Moynihan and Smith placing balls in the back of the cage. Smith's goal came with six seconds left on the clock to finalize the scoring at 23-10.Â
