Haley Speicher Wins Patriot League Softball Rookie of the Week

LEWISBURG, Pa.- The Patriot League office announced Tuesday that Haley Speicher received Patriot League Softball Rookie of the Week for her performance against Holy Cross in the Bison's three-game sweep of the Crusaders. Madison Roukey and Zoie Smith received honorable mention for their achievements in the sweep.Â
"I am thrilled to have Haley, Madison, and Zoie recognized for their efforts this weekend," said head coach Sarah Caffrey. "It was a big weekend for us and I think that they really showed up to play. Haley is especially exciting since she is a freshman and it seems like she just gets better and better. Our focus ia on finishing the season strong and we will rely on them the rest of the way to do so."
Speicher, batting leadoff, was the spark plug for the victories hitting .600 (6-for-10) with two triples, an RBI, and four runs scored. The rookie led the Bison in slugging percentage with .769 & total bases (10) and fielded a flawlessly 1.000.Â
Speicher is the first freshman to obtain the award since Elena Horn won it last year on March 29. Bucknell has had an award winner in the category every since 2011 with the exception of the COVID-abbreviated season of 2020.Â
Speicher and the Bison return to action this Saturday against St. John's for a nonconference doubleheader.Â
