LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell women's tennis team swept the doubles point and took five of six in singles to defeat Lafayette 6-1 in the regular season finale at the Varsity Tennis Courts Sunday. With the win, the Bison improved to 4-3 in Patriot League play and evened their overall record at 12-12.
Going with the same lineup that helped the Bison defeat Colgate last weekend, two battled back after first-set losses in the victory. Tyne Miller pulled out a 4-6, 6-0, 10-5 win over Lafayette's Carmen Merkel at No. 3 singles, and Kate Novak pulled out a 4-6, 7-5, 10-5 win over Alexandra Waldman.
Whitney King, Abby Platt and Caroline Marcus each won their singles matchups as well. Anna Lajos, who leads the team in overall singles wins, fell in three sets at the No. 2 position.
King and Platt, who have now won five in a row playing together in doubles, defeated Lafayette's top tandem to secure the sweep. Meanwhile, Miller and Lajos won 6-3 at No. 2, and Madi Sebulsky joined Marcus in a 6-3 win at No. 3. Platt ends the regular season as the team's overall leader in doubles wins at 19-7.
Bucknell finished the regular season strong, winning three of its last four matches over Patriot League opponents. The Bison's only league losses were to the three teams currently sitting ahead of them in the standings.
The 2023 Patriot League Tournament begins with first-round matchups on Thursday, April 27. The official tournament seedings will be released early this week.
