HASTINGS-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – Tatum McKelvey carded a season-best 77 to lead the Bucknell women's golf team to a 317 opening-round score on Monday at the St. John's Invitational at Saint Andrew's Golf Club. The Bison are in seventh place in the 11-team field, ahead of Fairfield, Holy Cross, Wagner, and Siena.
McKelvey, who made two birdies in her round, was not the only Bison to post a score in the 70s. Cristina Canales and Morgan Sohosky both shot 79, and Bucknell also counted an 82 from Viveka Kurup.
Host St. John's opened with a 291 to take a three-shot lead over Columbia and a four-shot advantage over UAlbany. Seton Hall (298) and Quinnipiac (301) round out the top five.
Jessie Kweon of St. John's has the individual lead after posting a 3-under-par 68. Yoko Tai of Columbia shot 69 and is the only other player in the field under par. McKelvey's 77 puts her in a tie for 21st place.
The second and final round gets underway with a 9:30 a.m. shotgun start on Tuesday morning. The Bison will play alongside Fairfield and Holy Cross.
