LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell women's tennis team picked up its first Patriot League win of the season by defeating Loyola (Md.) 7-0 at the Central PA Tennis Center Friday. Bucknell (8-7, 1-1 PL) won at all six singles positions and took two of three in doubles play to hand the Greyhounds a loss.
The Bison, which have won six of their last seven matches, collected retribution from a Loyola team that knocked them out of the Patriot League tournament last April. Four of Bucknell's six singles victories were won in straight sets, while two others required comeback efforts. It was Tyne Miller's come-from-behind 5-7, 6-3, 7-5 win at No. 3 singles that sealed the match for Bucknell.
Freshman Abby Platt, who has now won seven in a row in singles, also came back to win 4-6, 6-3, 6-1 at No. 4 singles.
Sophomore Whitney King knocked off 2022 All-Patriot League selection Olivia Tracey in the top singles position, and Anna Lajos won a pair of tiebreakers to claim a win at No. 2 singles. Kate Novak and Mirra Manolov were also winners at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, respectively.
Bucknell's top doubles tandem of King and Platt earned a 6-3 win, while Miller and Lajos finished on top with a 6-4 decision at No. 2 doubles.
Bucknell is back in action on Sunday, March 5 for a dual against Marist at 12:30 p.m. at the Varsity Tennis Courts in Lewisburg, Pa.
