ANNAPOLIS, Md.- The Bucknell Bison men's track and field is in third place after the first day of the Patriot League Indoor Track & Field Championships. The Bison scored 18 points in five events and trailed only Navy (77 points) and Army (53.5).
"It was not exactly what we were looking for, but we did have some outstanding marks," said head coach Kevin Donner. "Feeney shined in the Weight Throw, and Whittaker in the 5000 Meter Run were outstanding and made our all-time top-10 lists. We are looking forward to tomorrow and seeing what we can do."Â
Samuel Whittaker was the headliner for the first day of the championships. His performance in the 5000 Meter Run on a time of 14:17.12 earned third place and won Bucknell six points. The mark landed him fifth all-time in the Bucknell record book and qualified him for the IC4A. He improved upon his 2022 mark of seventh place.Â
The throwers powered the Bison's scoring output. Robert Feeney tossed the weight, a distance of 61-7 1/2, which earned him a fifth-place finish and placed him sixth in the Bucknell lists. The team gathered four points from the placement, and Feeney won IC4A qualification. John Calisi finished seventh in the same event on a toss of 57-9 3/4. His effort provided Bucknell with two points and gave him an IC4A qualification. Feeney finished seventh in the 2022 championships.Â
Franco Perinotti finished sixth in the Pole Vault on his clearance of 15-5. The Bison earned three points from the placement.Â
The 4x800 Meter Relay team of Seth Hoffritz, Christian Cadmus, Zachary Jelinek, and Colby Belczyk ran to a time of 7:53.44 and won Bucknell two points with their seventh-place finish.Â
Matt Federovich gave Bucknell a point with his performance in the Long Jump. His leap of 22-7 finished him in eighth place.Â
Several Bison athletes passed the preliminaries and will compete tomorrow in the finals. Brian Scotto placed fifth in the 60 Meter Hurdles with a time of 8.15, which improved upon his fifth-best record in Bucknell history.
