
Men's Swim & Dive Takes Third Place at 2023 PL Championships

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Three program records were broken, and three more Bison earned medals, as the Bucknell men's swimming & diving team finished in third place at the conclusion of the 2023 Patriot League Championships at Kinney Natatorium on Saturday. Bucknell totaled 538.5 points throughout the four-day meet, finishing behind runner-up Army (846.5) and champion Navy (856.5).

John Gehrig pulled in a silver medal in the 200 butterfly and was trailed by teammate Shane Wynne, who earned bronze in the event. Meanwhile, Leo Kuyl grabbed a third-place finish in the 100 freestyle.
In total, the Bison won six bronze medals, one gold and one silver throughout the championships. They also broke eight school records, including three on Saturday.
Gehrig's 1:45.13 in the 200 butterfly Saturday evening broke the record he set at last year's championships, as he was narrowly edged by Navy's Pat Colwell (1:45.08) in the finals. He was also the third leg of Bucknell's record-setting 400 freestyle relay team (Kuyl, Justin DiSanto, Gehrig, Chris Fabian), which posted a 2:56.34 to place fourth in the final event of the meet.
Kuyl, who won the 50 freestyle championships on Thursday night, took bronze in the 100 freestyle on Saturday with a school-record 43.92. He previously broke his own record earlier in the day while finishing second in the prelims.

The Bison logged five other program top-five finishes on Saturday, including two more in the 100 freestyle. DiSanto posted a 44.20 in the event, which is second all-time behind Kuyl, and Fabian's 44.50 ranks fourth.
Braden Beagle's 1:47.57 in the 200 backstroke ranks fourth all-time, and Shane Wynne's 1:47.82 in the 200 butterfly prelims is third in the record book.
Alex Crossing added to the list with the fifth-best 1650 freestyle in school history, clocking a 15:38.82. Noah Basista's 2:00.67 in the 200 breaststroke is top-five as well.
