
Men's Swim & Dive Captures First Place at 2023 Bucknell Invitational

LEWISBURG, Pa. – The men's swim & dive team maintained its first-place position throughout the weekend and solidified its win at the Bucknell Invitational Sunday at Kinney Natatorium. The Bison added two more third-place finishes, and sophomore Jack Krug posted a program top-10 score on the 3-meter board. The Bison beat out second-place Davidson (1,231) by 49.5 points, totaling 1,280.5.

William Shoemaker started the second half of the day for the Bison by taking third in the 1650 freestyle, posting a solid 15:43.88. He came in just ahead of teammate Alex Crossing (15:54.14) in fourth place, as the pair combined for 53 points. Chris Kopac (6th, 16:07.17) and Riley Twiss (8th, 16:10.09) also place among the top eight.
John Gehrig took third in the 200 butterfly with a 1:47.73, and teammate Andy Dorsel won the B final with a 1:51.01.
Krug's 3-meter mark of 290.65 ranks seventh in school history, as he took fourth place at the meet. He's only the second Bison to register 290 points or better since 2016, joining Jackson Vinarub. First-year Connor Thurston's 270.95 fell just shy of the all-time top 10 list.
Two Bison earned spots in the A finals in the 200 backstroke. Braden Beagle placed fourth with a 1:50.60, and Andy Dorsel collected eighth-place points. First-year Chase Ferguson won the C finals with a solid 1:53.47.
Rounding out Bucknell's top-eight placers were Chris Fabian, who took fifth in the 100 freestyle A finals with a 45.26, and the 400 freestyle relay team of Gehrig, Drew Greene, Kopac and Fabian, who finished seventh with a 3:03.24.
The Bison now break for the semester and return to action on Saturday, Jan. 13 to face Army in a dual meet in West Point.
