
Volleyball Sweeps Lafayette to Win Its Tenth PL Game

LEWISBURG, Pa.- The Bucknell Bison volleyball team (14-9, 10-4 PL) swept the visiting Lafayette Leopards (9-14, 5-10 PL) in straight sets (25-22, 25-17, 25-16) on Saturday afternoon. The Orange & Blue overcame a late Lafayette rally in the first set to win and set the tone for the remainder of the game. Reigning Patriot League Player of the Week Catherine Jamison collected 12 kills to lead all players. Jordan Hardy gathered 19 digs, and Laura Caro provided 36 assists. Bucknell outhit Lafayette by nearly one hundred percentage points: .265-.167.

The Bison were ready to play and sprinted to a 9-5 lead on the Leopards. Lafayette was not deterred by the home team's effort and used a 3-0 run to combat Bucknell. The Orange & Blue calmly absorbed the momentum and retaliated with a 6-0 run powered by three Lafayette errors. With the score at 18-13 Bucknell, the Leopards launched a 5-0 run to tie up the set. Head coach Tyler Hagstrom called a timeout to rally his troops. The stratagem worked. Bucknell went on a 5-2 run to pull away. Lafayette had a tiny 2-0 run, but any comeback was ruined when a Lafayette serve flew into the net. Bucknell had the first set, 25-22.
Lafayette scored first in the second set, and it proved to be the Easton team's final lead of the game. Bucknell immediately zoomed off a 4-0 run. The Bison kept trying to break away, but the Leopards would stay within one point. Bucknell eventually built up a sizable cushion, going on a 7-1 run to go up 18-10. Cameron Lloyd totaled two kills during the streak. Lafayette would not have a rally in their paws. A block by Lloyd and Riley Tucker gave Bucknell the 25-17 win.
The Leopards did not go quietly into the darkening afternoon. The two teams battled back and forth during the single-digit portion, with Bucknell emerging up 10-9. The set was decided when Bucknell pulled away on a 7-1 run. Lafayette fought back to cut the deficit to 19-15 and sought a fourth set. Their dreams were denied by a 5-0 Bucknell run, with Tijana Kostic providing two kills. Lafayette tallied one point, but it was for naught as Jamison did what she usually would do at set point and delivered the winning kill. Bucknell won the set 25-16 and swept the match.

Bucknell went 2-0 this season in the Nieporte Civil War. Bucknell's Libby Nieporte's sister, Abby Nieporte, is a junior at Lafayette.
The Bison's 14 wins are the most since 2019, and their 10 Patriot League victories are the highest amount since 2006. The 2003 team holds the school record for conference triumphs at 11.
