LEWISBURG, Pa. - Emma Theodorsson scored a career-high 26 points and grabbed a career-high ten rebounds to notch her first career double-double to lead the Bucknell women's basketball team to a 68-54 win over Robert Morris Friday afternoon at Sojka Pavilion. The Bison forced 23 turnovers and scored 26 points off those Colonial miscues to improve to 2-0 at home this year.
Freshman Ashley Sofilkanich added 15 points, five rebounds, and three steals while playing more than 30 minutes for the first time in her career, while senior Caroline Dingler registered a career-high 10 points.
Bucknell (2-4) outscored Robert Morris (2-4) 29-15 over the final 18 minutes of the first half and led by as many as 15 points in the fourth quarter. The Bison took control of the game with a 10-0 run in the latter part of the second quarter and never trailed in the second half.
Theodorsson led Bucknell at the free throw line, making 10 of her 12 attempts. The Bison outscored the Colonials 23-4 at the line. Bucknell ended the game strong by shooting 8 of 11 (72.7 percent) from the field and 11 of 15 (73.3 percent) from the line in the final quarter.
Simone Morris and Madison O'Dell led Robert Morris with 13 points on a combined 12 of 25 shooting. The rest of the Colonials roster made 12 of 36 from the field.
"We were thrilled to win," said head coach Trevor Woodruff. "We had a tough swing through Kentucky. I am happy the ladies were able to bounce back. It was a quick turnaround. We had two good days of practice leading up to today's game. I thought we saw better play. It is not a coincidence it came after two good days of practice."
Bucknell started sluggishly, allowing RMU to skate to a 4-0 advantage. Coach Woodruff called timeout, and the Bison settled down. Bucknell battled back to make it 10-9 RMU on a Theodorsson turnaround jumper. The Orange & Blue ended the first quarter on a 7-1 run powered by Theodorsson's three-pointer, a Sofilkanich jump shot, and a charging layup by Dingler. The stretch gave Bucknell a 16-11 lead, a situation that would never be relinquished.
The second quarter commenced with Dingler's three-pointer followed by a 6-0 RMU run. Bucknell countered with a 10-0 streak to regain momentum and create separation. Theodorsson powered the run with five points. Isabella King supplied a layup, Sofilkanich chipped in two free throws, and Dingler provided a free throw. RMU scored the final basket to establish Bucknell's 29-19 halftime lead.
The Colonials sprinted out of the locker room on a 5-0 run. Sophia Sabino buried her second three-pointer to make it 34-26 Bucknell. The Bison used the energy synthesized to establish a 39-29 lead. RMU refused to quit and kept fighting to cut the deficit to 40-35 as the quarter ended.
Despite RMU's best efforts, the Bison kept the Moon Township team at bay. RMU scored first in the final quarter to make it 40-37. Sofilkanich and Theodorsson answered the bell each scoring two baskets after RMU tallies. With the score 49-42, Theodorsson poured in four straight points, and Dingler drove to the basket for a decisive layup and a 55-44 advantage.
That stretch effectively sealed the game. Theodorsson and the Bison continued to produce points to stymie any potential late-game heroics from the Colonials. RMU sneaked to within 60-51, but Theodorsson crossed the career-high barrier and closed the door with five free throws. Dingler's final two free throws etched the final score at 68-54 Bucknell.
