
#15 Louisville Pulls Away from Bucknell

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Bucknell Bison women's basketball team (1-3) battled hard throughout the game but the #15 Louisville Cardinals (4-0) pulled away to win 77-44 on Sunday afternoon. The Orange & Blue trailed 22-18 after the first quarter but were outscored 55-26 in the final three stanzas.
Isabella King led the Bison attack with 15 points on 6-of-8 shooting. King scored 11 of Bucknell's 18 first-quarter points. Emma Theodorsson finished strong, tallying her 11 points in the fourth quarter. Blake Matthews scored a career-high nine points, topping her previous career-high of six points set against FDU on Wednesday.
The Bison shot 45.2% on 19-of-42 shooting but were done in by 26 turnovers. Louisville shot 45.0% on 27-of-60 shooting. Sydney Taylor led the Cardinals with 17 points. Louisville had four scorers in double figures.
The Cardinals had a marked advantage at the free throw line, converting 16-of-21 attempts to Bucknell's 1-of-5 chances.
Louisville blitzed out to a 7-0 lead before King drained a three-pointer to calm the Bison nerves. Bucknell cut the deficit to 12-9 on a Matthews jumper. The Cardinals kept scoring, but the Bison kept within striking distance thanks to treys by King and Matthews. Matthews' three-point shot made it 20-18 Louisville. The Cardinals scored a final basket for the 22-18 advantage.
The Cardinals went on a 9-0 run in the second quarter. Bucknell could not generate offense for most of the second period while Louisville steadily built its lead. The Bison finished strong, as Caroline Dingler scored the final four points. Louisville led 37-24 at halftime.
The home team pulled away in the third quarter, outscoring Bucknell 20-7. Nicole Davis tallied a basket for her first points of the season. Otherwise, the Bison could not string together a run of points to cut into the Louisville lead. The third period concluded with Louisville converting two free throws for the 57-31 advantage.
The final quarter belonged to Theodorsson. The sophomore guard drained 11 points on 5-of-6 shooting to score most of Bucknell's 13 fourth-quarter points. Sophia Sabino and Rosie Scognamiglio substituted in and played several minutes down the stretch. Sabino grabbed a rebound, and Scognamiglio narrowly missed a three-pointer. Louisville collected 20 points to win the game, 77-44.
