LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell senior defender Brooke Tracey was selected as the 2023 Patriot League Women's Soccer Scholar-Athlete of the Year on Wednesday, and she joined senior goalkeeper Jenna Hall and junior forward Paige Temple on the 11-person Academic All-Patriot League Team.
Tracey is the first Bison to earn the league's top scholar-athlete honor since Kendall Ham won it in back-to-back years in 2016 and 2017. Other Bucknell recipients are Christina Baselga (1990), Joanne Crane (1994), and Shannon Curd (2006).
A business analytics major with a cumulative grade-point average of 3.85, Tracey earned First Team All-Patriot League honors this season after being named to the Third Team a year ago. A team captain and three-year starting center back, Tracey heads up a Bison back four that has contributed to eight shutouts this season and 19 over the last two years. She played every minute of every game in 2022 and all but 16 minutes this season. Tracey played a key role in Bucknell's back-to-back league championships in 2021 and 2022, as the team did not allow a goal in any of its five Patriot League Tournament games.
Off the field, Tracey has been a Dean's List student every semester at Bucknell thus far. She is a member of the Omega Rho and Mortar Board honor societies, and she works as a teaching assistant in the Freeman College of Management, working closely with Bucknell's innovative Intro to Organizations and Management course, where students are tasked with creating a multi-divisional company. She was a data and tech intern with PricewaterhouseCoopers last summer.
Along with two other student-athletes, Tracey co-founded Bucknell's chapter of Morgan's Message, a group workshop that seeks to raise awareness and discussion pertaining to student-athletes' mental health challenges.
Hall was just recognized as the Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Year for the second year in a row. Just the fifth two-time GK of the Year in league history, Hall has played every minute in goal for Bucknell this season. She is tied for the league lead with eight shutouts, including five in her last seven games. She has made at least five saves in each of her last eight outings, and she leads all Patriot League netminders in total saves (110) and save percentage (.853). Her 6.1 saves per game rank 13th nationally, and her 322 career saves are 11th-most among all active Division I players.
A global management major with minors in real estate and Japanese with a 3.57 GPA, Hall is a team captain and a member of the Leadership Roundtable within the Bucknell Athletics Leadership Institute. She was selected to the attend the Naval Academy Leadership Conference and also completed a Global Ambassador Program, where she executed a yearlong project identifying the differences in sponsorships among various national soccer teams. Hall spent three weeks last summer interning with Fintech House in Lisbon, Portugal, and she is also a member of the Bucknell Women in Finance Society.
Temple has earned a 3.85 GPA in early childhood education. She earned Third Team All-Patriot League honors last week after compiling four goals and three assists in the regular season. She scored three goals in a four-game span late in the year, including game-winners in wins over Loyola and Lafayette as well as a second-half go-ahead goal in what later became a 3-3 draw with Boston University. Temple also recorded a goal and an assist against Saint Joseph's and picked up assists in back-to-back wins over Colorado College and Air Force.
Bucknell's three Academic All-Patriot League selections were the most in the conference. The Bison trio joins Boston University's Morgan Fagan and Giulianna Gianino, Loyola's Baylee DeSmit and Paige Sim, Navy's Chloe Dawson and Alexa Riddle, American's Brooke Steel, and Holy Cross' Emily Bubonovich on the squad.
The Bison women's soccer program is one of Bucknell's most successful both on and off the field. The two-time defending Patriot League champs also have a combined cumulative GPA of 3.51.
Bucknell brings an 11-3-4 record into Thursday's Patriot League Tournament semifinal game. The Bison are the No. 2 seed and will host No. 4 Boston University at 7 p.m. at Emmitt Field at Holmes Stadium.
