Field Hockey Places Apa and Neilson on Academic All-League Team

LEWISBURG, Pa.- The Bucknell Bison field hockey team continued its excellence off the pitch by placing two players on the Patriot League All-Academic Team. Senior Rachel Apa and junior Lily Neilson accomplished the feat the league office announced on Wednesday. Apa and Neilson were among the 11 student-athletes named to the team. Both players are first-time honorees.Â
Apa started all 16 games in 2023 and has played in 62 contests for the Bison while maintaining a 3.83-grade point average as a Markets, Innovation & Design major. The Lewisberry, Pa. native has been a constant presence on the Bucknell forward line, scoring 15 career goals. This season, Apa has tallied nine points on four goals and one assist. She has made the NFHCA National Academic Squad and the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll multiple times and was on the 2021-22 Academic All-Patriot League Teams.
Neilson adds another shiny distinction to her already burgeoning trophy case. The Australian native has already earned Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year and First Team honors. Neilson's 13 goals lead the Patriot League, the third consecutive season she has done so. Neilson ranks 12th in the nation in goals per game. The potent goal-scorer majors in Biology and holds a 3.37 GPA. Neilson made the 2021 NFHCA National Academic Squad and the 2021 Patriot League Academic Honor Roll.Â
The Bison has placed multiple student-athletes on the Academic All-Patriot League Team every year since its creation in 2010 and has the most honorees all-time at 39.Â
Bucknell makes its 16th consecutive appearance in the Patriot League tournament when they face top-seeded American in the semifinal round on Thursday, Nov. 2, at 11 a.m.
