LEWISBURG, Pa. – Andres Barraza and Hayden Quinn both carded even-par 70s to lead the Bucknell men's golf team to a 5-over-par total of 285 in round two of the Bucknell Invitational on Monday. The Bison are solidly in third place in a 19-team field with one more round to come on Tuesday.
In addition to the matching 70s from Barraza and Quinn, the Bison also counted a 72 from James Robbins and a 73 from Alex Creamean. Barraza moved up to a tie for fourth place in the individual standings, while Creamean, who fired a 69 in the opening round on Sunday, is now T-8th.
It was also a good day for Bucknell's three unattached players, as Michael Rudnick posted a 70, and Lyman Brackett and Jake Maddaloni both carded 74s.
Bucknell's four counting players consisted of two freshmen and two sophomores, and their key to success was a strong finish over the last four holes. That quartet was a combined 6-under on holes 15-18, including three birdies apiece from Barraza and Robbins.
Barraza made three in a row on 15, 16, and 17 to finish at even par on the day. Robbins birdied three of the last four, and his six birdies on the day helped him overcome an early triple-bogey. Quinn had a consistent day with two birdies, two bogeys, and 14 pars, and Creamean also tallied 14 pars, including the last six in a row.
Colgate jumped into the sole possession of the lead with an outstanding 3-under 277 team score. The Raiders counted two 68s, a 70, and a 71 in round two, and their 1-under 559 total is seven shots clear of second-place Long Island. Bucknell is third at 572, followed by Villanova (580) and Youngstown State (581).
LIU's Lewis Wright followed up his opening-round 66 with a 70, and he remained in the lead by two shots over Colgate's Kevin Hollomon (70-68).
The third and final round gets going at 9 a.m. on Tuesday at the Bucknell Golf Club.
