LEWISBURG, Pa.- Lily Neilson continued her bountiful 2023 campaign with another Patriot League Offensive Player of the Award honor. It is the fourth such award for the Australian native this season and the sixth time in her career. With the selection, Neilson ties the record for most times presented in a season with four previous recipients. It is the first time since 2012 that a Patriot League player has been selected four times in a season, and Neilson is the first Bucknell player to do so.Â
Neilson powered the Bison attack in the 5-0 blanking over Colgate with two goals and one assist. The junior forward tallied both goals in the second quarter to provide Bucknell with an insurmountable 3-0 lead. In the third period, she passed on a golden chance for a hat trick to allow senior Rachel Apa to score a goal on Senior Day. The expert pass provided Neilson with an assist. Â
The Bucknell forward finished the regular season with 28 points (13 goals and two assists), only one point behind the PL leader, Lafayette's Lineke Spaans. Neilson played in two fewer contests than Spaans due to participation in the Australian Junior World Cup Team trials and thus averaged more goals and points per game. Neilson averaged an astronomical .929 goals per game, .262 more than the second-place finisher.Â
Neilson continued her ascent up the Bison record book in 2023. Her 42 career goals rank her third in the Bucknell annals, and her 88 career points place her fourth in Bucknell history. The forward's 13 goals in 2023 are tenth in the Bucknell's single-season rankings.Â
The Bison punched a ticket to their 16th consecutive Patriot League Tournament. Bucknell, as the fourth seed, plays the first seed American on Thursday at 11 a.m.Â
