LEWISBURG, Pa. – Christa Matlack, a 2011 Bucknell graduate and one of the women's soccer team's all-time leading goal-scorers, has been elected to the West Branch Valley Chapter of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame. The formal induction ceremony is set for Sunday, Nov. 12 at 5 p.m. at the Genetti Hotel & Suites in Williamsport, Pa.
Seats for the induction banquet are available for $40 from Crystal Yoder by e-mailing cyoder@IU17.ORG or calling 570-246-3917, or by mailing a check made payable to the West Branch Valley Sports Hall of Fame mailed to Crystal Yoder, 516 Hawthorne Dr., Lewisburg, PA 17837.
Matlack, who was a first-ballot inductee into the Bucknell Athletics Hall of Fame in 2021, was a three-time All-Patriot League honoree and the 2009 and 2010 Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year. Matlack recorded at least seven goals in all four of her seasons at Bucknell, and her 32 career goals were the fifth-most in team history at the time of her graduation. She also ranked fifth in total points (78) and seventh in assists (14) on Bucknell's career lists.
Just as prolific in the classroom, Matlack became the first player in team history to garner NSCAA Scholar All-America honors, doing so twice as a junior and senior. She was one of 35 national recipients and was honored at the NSCAA national convention. A Christy Mathewson Award winner and a member of the Patriot League 25th Anniversary Team, Matlack later became head women's soccer coach at Penn College and now works as a career coach in the Bucknell Center for Career Advancement.
During her high school days at nearby South Williamsport High School, Matlack shattered the Lycoming County record with 176 career goals, and she led the Lady Mounties to the 2006 Pennsylvania state championship.
Matlack is one of 10 inductees in the 2023 class. She will be joined by Dominick Bragalone (South Williamsport, football), D.J. Flick (Montgomery, football), Carter "Butch" Giles (Montoursville, football/wrestling), Tina Martin (Williamsport, basketball/coach), Mark Molesky (Montoursville, basketball), Dick Rhodes (Lock Haven, wrestling/coach), Heidi Loudenslager Russell (Williamsport, softball), Von Walker (Central Mountain, football/baseball), and the late David Scott (Williamsport, softball).
