Deda, Hall Repeat as Major Award Winners as Six Bison Earn All-Patriot League Women’s Soccer Honors

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Senior goalkeeper Jenna Hall and junior midfielder Teresa Deda captured All-Patriot League women's soccer major awards for the second straight year, and they were joined on the All-League team by four of their teammates as the Patriot League announced its postseason honors on Friday.
Hall was selected as the Goalkeeper of the Year and Deda as the Midfielder of the Year, and both earned First Team All-Patriot League honors along with senior defender Brooke Tracey. Sophomore forward Henna Andican and junior defender Katie Schiano were both Second Team honorees, and junior forward Paige Temple was named to the Third Team.
Bucknell, 11-3-4 on the season and the No. 2 seed in the upcoming Patriot League Tournament, claimed its most All-League citations since the 2016 squad garnered a school-record eight honorees.
Last year, Deda became the first Bison ever to earn First Team All-Patriot League honors in each of her first two seasons, and now she has done it for a third year in a row. The Patriot League Midfielder of the Year award was established in 2016, and she is the first to receive it twice.
Deda has enjoyed another stellar campaign thus far in 2023. She has a career-high seven goals and a league-high nine assists, as she is vying to win the league's assists title for the third year in a row. Her 29 career assists are already second-most in team history, sixth-most in Patriot League history, and 10th-most among all active Division I players. Her 0.5 career assists-per-game average is fourth-best among all active players. Deda's two most recent helpers came in Wednesday's 2-1 win at Lehigh that clinched the No. 2 seed for the team.
Deda's seven goals and 23 points both rank second in the league behind Loyola's Baylee DeSmit (10-8-28), who was selected as the league's Offensive Player of the Year. Remarkably, Bucknell has a 22-1-3 record when Deda scores at least one point, including a 9-0-1 mark this season.
Hall is now a three-time All-Patriot League honoree after earning Third Team accolades as a sophomore and First Team plaudits in each of the last two seasons. She is the fifth two-time Goalkeeper of the Year in league history, joining Navy's Lizzie Barnes (2006, 2008), Lafayette's Lauren Smedley (2010, 2011), Navy's Elizabeth Hoerner (2012, 2013) and Army's Sydney Cassalia (2019, S2021).
Hall has played every minute in goal for the Bison this season and is tied for the Patriot League lead with eight shutouts. She enters the postseason hot, with five clean sheets in her last seven games. She has made at least five saves in each of her last eight outings, including a 10-save performance in a 1-0 blanking of high-powered Princeton.
Hall leads all Patriot League keepers in both total saves (110) and save percentage (.853), and her 6.1 saves per game are 13th-most in the nation. Her 322 career saves are 11th-most among all active Division I players.
Tracey is now firmly established as one of the league's premier center backs. She was a Third Team All-Patriot League selection last year and now moves up to the First Team as a senior. A three-year starter, Tracey played every minute of every game last season and all but 16 minutes this year. She has keyed a defensive unit that posted five straight Patriot League Tournament shutouts on the way to the 2021 and 2022 titles.
A first-time All-Patriot Leaguer, Schiano is another standout member of the Bison back four. After starting her career as a forward, she returned from injury last season and moved to right back, where she has found a permanent home. The speedy junior has started all 18 games this year and played the full 90 minutes in 12 of them. She has also contributed a goal and four assists, with her first career goal a big one in a 3-1 road win over La Salle.
Andican and Temple, who comprise a dangerous forward pairing, are also All-Patriot League honorees for the first time. Andican recorded two goals and three assists as a freshman in 2022, and now she has really broken out during her sophomore year. She has six goals and seven assists for 19 points on the season, and she ranks third in the league in all three categories. Andican, who leads the league in shots (66) and shots on goal (32), has a point in four straight games heading into the postseason, including her second-half tying goal at Lehigh on Wednesday.
Temple has four goals and three assists on the season, capped by a recent run of three games in four with a goal. She tallied the game-winners in victories over Loyola and Lafayette along with a go-ahead goal in what later became a 3-3 draw with Boston University. Temple also had a goal and an assist against Saint Joseph's and picked up assists in back-to-back wins over Colorado College and Air Force.
In addition to Hall and Deda, other major award winners included DeSmit, Lehigh's Ryelle Shuey (Defensive Player of the Year), Lafayette's Nadia Zaffanella (Rookie of the Year), and Army's Tracy Chao (Coach of the Year).
Bucknell will next be in action next Thursday when it hosts a Patriot League Tournament semifinal game at 7 p.m.
