Men's Cross Country Heads to Hamilton for Patriot League Championships

LEWISBURG, Pa.- The Bucknell University men's cross country team heads to Hamilton, N.Y., on Oct. 28, seeking to add another conference title to the trophy case as the squadron prepares for another Patriot League Championships meet. The Bison have won six men's cross country titles. The event will feature every Patriot League program that sponsors men's cross country. Bucknell finished fourth in 2022.

Donner's Debriefing

"We are a deep team this year with plenty of underclassmen who have improved tremendously over the past year," said head coach Kevin Donner. "We are excited to see what we can do, and our training has gone well. Although we have been battling a health bug that has been passed around throughout the season, this has been a great season regarding injuries. The men have been taking care of details that add up over time, and nobody has missed any serious time. We love this course as it can be hilly and tricky in certain areas."

Overview

Last time out, the Bison men placed 14th at the ECAC/IC4A Championships.
Henry Didden, as usual, led the way for the Bison runners by finishing 38th (24.42.1) against a challenging crowd of Eastern runners.
Bobby Lynam placed 72nd (25:07.9), finishing as Bucknell's second-highest scorer. The junior runner continues his late-season push into top-five contention.
Junior Ben Santos broke into the top 100 by placing 98th (25:23.8). He ran nearly two minutes faster than his time at the Paul Short Run on Sept. 30.
The Bison return three scoring runners from last year's championships in Santos (16th), Lynam (24th), and Didden (47th).
Bucknell previously competed at the Lang Course during the appropriately named Lang Invitational in the first meet of the 2023 season. The Bison are banking on prior course experience to give them an edge.
The race will be 8k in length.
The Navy men's cross country team was ranked No. 3 in the US Track and Field and Cross Country Association (USTFCCCA) Mid-Atlantic Region when the polls were released on Oct. 16. Bucknell was No. 14. American checked in at No. 15. In the Northeast Region, Boston University is ranked No. 6, with Army West Point checking in at No. 13. The Navy men's squad was also receiving votes nationally in the USTFCCCA coaches' poll on Oct. 17.

Patriot League Cross Country Major Awards and All-League Honors

The Patriot League cross country major awards will be distributed following the race and are determined by the individual finish of the competing student-athletes at the championship. The individual champion of both races will be named the Patriot League Runner of the Year for the men and women. The top-finishing freshman in both races earns Patriot League Rookie of the Year honors. The top seven finishers in the men's and women's races make the All-Patriot League First Team, with the eighth through 14th-place runners making up the second team. The head coaches will vote on the Patriot League's Men's and Women's Coach of the Year awards.
