LEWISBURG, Pa. – Teresa Deda and Jenna Hall were two of the catalysts in the Bucknell women's soccer team's 2-0 week, and both received honors on Monday. Deda was selected as the Patriot League Midfielder of the Week, and Hall was picked as the Goalkeeper of the Week.
Bucknell started the week with a dramatic 1-0 road win over Ivy League power Princeton on Tuesday. The Tigers had been undefeated at home this season, they had been nationally ranked earlier in the season, and at the time of the game they held a No. 8 RPI ranking. Then on Saturday, the Bison celebrated Senior Day with a 2-0 win over Lafayette, which clinched a Patriot League Tournament berth and moved the team into second place with one regular-season game remaining.
Deda scored goals in both games, starting with the game-winner at Princeton in the 84th minute. Deda made a long run on a Bison counter, ran onto a perfectly placed lead pass from Henna Andican, and buried the shot that delivered an impressive non-league road win.
Against Lafayette, the Bison were protecting a 1-0 lead in the 88th minute when Deda stepped in front of a pass from the Leopards' center back, leading to a 1v1 finish against the goalkeeper.
Deda now has seven goals and seven assists on the season. The seven assists are tied for the Patriot League lead (along with Andican), and she also ranks second in both goals and points (21).
Meanwhile, Hall backstopped two more shutouts last week, giving her eight on the season and seven in her last nine games. She made 10 saves against a Princeton team that came in with 30 goals in 13 matches on the season. Hall kept the game scoreless until the Bison found their breakthrough in the final five minutes.
Hall tallied five saves against Lafayette, making her a perfect 15-for-15 on the week, and her 25th career shutout extended her school record.
Hall leads the Patriot League in save percentage (.851) and saves per game (6.1), while her eight shutouts are tied for the league lead.
Bucknell is now 10-3-4 overall, 7-0-2 at home, and 4-1-3 in Patriot League play. The Bison are currently second in the Patriot League table on 15 points, tied with Loyola and one behind Army. Bucknell closes out the regular season on Wednesday night at fifth-place Lehigh (4-3-1, 13 points).
The top two teams receive byes into the Patriot League Tournament semifinals, while the 3 and 4 seeds host quarterfinal games on Sunday. Bucknell can finish anywhere from first to fifth, depending on Wednesday's results.
