Men’s Soccer Falls 1-0 on Late Terriers Goal
10/21/2023 7:33:00 PM | Men's Soccer
LEWISBURG, Pa. – Eitan Rosen's goal with just 3:55 left in the match sent Boston University to a 1-0 win over Bucknell in Patriot League men's soccer action at blustery Emmitt Field at Holmes Stadium on Saturday afternoon. The late strike spoiled a determined Senior Day effort from the Bison, who allowed only seven total shots and just three on target all day.
The win helped the second-place Terriers (8-3-4, 5-1-1 PL) keep pace with Patriot League-leading Loyola, which defeated Lafayette 2-0 later in the day. The Greyhounds (5-0-2) maintain a one-point lead with two regular-season fixtures remaining.
Bucknell (1-10-3, 0-6-1 PL) played an even match with Boston University on a day when scoring chances were hard to come by for both sides. Jake Nicoll made an early diving save to deny Quin DeLaMater, and the first half ended scoreless with the teams attempting only two shots apiece.
The Bison nearly took the lead in the 54th minute when Charlie Holmes slid a sharp-angled shot behind goalkeeper Francesco Montali, but DeLaMater swept the ball off the goal line, into the back of a teammate, and out for a corner kick.
In the 65th minute, Collin Murphy weaved through traffic into the box and curled a shot that required a save from Montali.
The Bison seemed destined for a second straight 0-0 draw against a quality opponent, but Boston University found the breakthrough less than four minutes from full time. Colin Innes carried the ball into the box only to be met by Ben Sheffield's well-timed slide tackle. But the ball caromed right to Jason Zacarias at the edge of the area, and he set up Rosen for a well-taken strike just inside the right post.
The final shot count was 7-5 in favor of the Terriers, and both teams attempted three corner kicks. Nicoll made two saves and Montali three.
Seniors Brennan Gac, MJ Kuczura, Collin Murphy, and Matthew Owusu were all honored before their final home game. The Bison will now finish up the campaign with away games at Lafayette next Saturday and at Lehigh on Wednesday, Nov. 1.
