WORCESTER, Mass.- The Bucknell Bison men's soccer team (1-9-2, 0-5-1 PL) lost 2-1 to the Holy Cross Crusaders (5-7-2, 2-3-1 PL) in Saturday afternoon Patriot League action. Most of the game went scoreless before a flurry of goals in the last 15 minutes of action. With the game tied at 1-1, Holy Cross scored the winning goal in the 89th minute.
Recap
The first half witnessed little action as both teams only recorded two shots on goal. The Crusaders had more shooting chances (6-3) to the Bison but did nothing with the increased opportunities.
Bucknell had the first chance of the game with Jackson Sullivan firing a shot into the right corner pocket, but the Holy Cross goalkeeper made a valiant save. Neither team attempted any shots for the next 10 minutes until a Holy Cross forward sent a ball flying over the crossbar.
Bucknell's other shot-on-goal chance came in the 29th minute when Mason Lillis attempted to navigate the sphere through the low center opening, but a save stopped his hopes.
The early theme of the second half was constant Holy Cross pressure on the Bison defense. The Crusaders recorded five shots to the Orange & Blue's one in the first 15 minutes of resumed play.
From the 60th minute until the 71st, neither team attempted a shot as both defenses proved to be suffocating.
Holy Cross opened the long-desired scoring in the 77th minute with a goal by Ethan Gill. His shot found the top-right corner to give the Crusaders a 1-0 advantage.
Bucknell answered a minute later with a beautiful tally by Zane Domsohn. Jack Roberto, stationed at midfield, sent a soaring pass to Domsohn. The Bison player neatly avoided the hard-charging Holy Cross goalkeeper, who left his post attempting to disrupt Domsohn's actions. Domsohn slid his shot past the Crusader into the empty net to tie the game at 1-1.
Holy Cross pulled out the go-ahead goal in the 89th minute. Bucknell had possession in its left corner when a push and a blocked pass gave away the ball to the Crusaders. A second pass sent the ball to Jon Klein, who fired the sphere into the lower left section of the goal.
Bucknell could not attempt a shot in the final minute, and Holy Cross sealed the 2-1 win.
