Bain Leads Bison on Day 1 at ITA Atlantic Regional

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Oscar Bain Moreno de Vega turned in a perfect opening day at the ITA Atlantic Regional Championships with two singles wins and a doubles victory on Wednesday at the Liberty Tennis Complex.
Bain posted two straight-set singles wins, defeating Radford's Charles Courteau 7-6, 6-1 and Villanova's Eitan Khromchenko 6-2, 7-6. He will take on George Mason's Momin Khan in the third round of the Bronze Draw on Thursday morning.
Bain came back in the evening to pair with Adam Stavrakas for an 8-5 doubles win over Marcel Cronin and Akrash Gaonkar of Mount St. Mary's. The Bison duo will face a pair from Villanova in the second round on Thursday.
Also winning in doubles were Amar Tahirovic and Brendan McDonald, who took a thrilling 8-7 (7-3) win over Stefan Regalia and Douglas Yaffa of Virginia. They will next take on a Delaware tandem on Thursday.
McDonald won his first singles match of the day, 6-3, 6-3 over Herman Jentoft of George Mason, but he fell 7-5, 6-4 to Norfolk State's Deniz Okyay later in the afternoon. Freshmen Liam Kilmer and Ethan Esclamado dropped their first-round matches and will move into the consolation draw. Kilmer took the first set from Virginia's Regalia but ultimately fell 3-6, 6-1, 6-2.
Tahirovic, Stavrakas, and Tim Zelikovsky all placed into the Silver Draw and will begin their singles action on Thursday.
