Kallmeyer, Schraa Score First Career Goals
PRINCETON, N.J.– No. 12 UC Santa Barbara started fast and never looked back in taking a 16-7 win over the Bucknell women's water polo team on Saturday afternoon in its season opener.
The Gauchos scored eight goals in each half, including a 4-1 run to start the game, to pull away from Bucknell and improve to 7-1 on the season.
It took just 19 seconds for the Gauchos to get on the board on a goal from Camilla Mackay, but the Bison found the answering goal just 30 seconds later when Bella Moynihan found the back of the cage at the 7:12 mark.
UCSB ended the period strongly, scoring three straight goals over the final four minutes to take a 4-1 lead after one. Isabelle Monaghan scored Bucknell's second goal of the game at the 7:48 mark of the second, but another run from the Gauchos, this time 4-0, gave them a commanding 8-2 lead before Bucknell's Bella Schraa scored her first career goal just before the end of the half to make it 8-3.
Two goals from Gwen Kallmeyer and a goal from Izzy Lippolis were not enough in the second half as UCSB took a 16-7 decision over the Bison to improve to 5-0 in the all-time series between the two schools.
Bucknell returns to action tomorrow morning against UC San Diego before closing the Princeton Invite with an afternoon matchup against Wagner.
