STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – The Bucknell women's golf team turned in four scores in the 70s for the third straight round on the way to a 305 team score as the Nittany Lion Invitational wrapped up on Sunday at the Penn State Blue Course. Bucknell's 923 team total over 54 holes was the fourth-best in team history and second-best on a visiting golf course.
Freshman Paige Richter paced the Bison with a 3-over-par 75 on Sunday. Kelsey Yi followed with a 76, and Tara Thomas and Kayla Yi both posted 77s.
Kelsey Yi was the low Bison for the weekend with a 230 total, while Richter, Thomas, and Kayla Yi all finished at 231. Once again, it was a consistent day for the team, with the four counters combining for only one hole worse than bogey after only four such holes in a 36-hole day on Saturday.
Bucknell finished in 16th place in a competitive field. Host Penn State won the tournament with a 54-hole total of 861. Kennesaw State was second at 877, with Boston College (878), Youngstown State (890), and Richmond (894) rounding out the top five.
Amelia Lee of Toledo was the medalist at 7-under 209 (68-71-70). Richmond's Hanna Lydic, who won the William & Mary Invitational earlier in the week, closed with a 68 to place second at 3-under, and defending champion Mathilde Delavallade of Penn State finished third at 2-under.
Bucknell's low 54-hole total on a course other than the Bucknell Golf Club is a 922 at Rehoboth Beach Country Club in the fall of 2018. On Sunday the Bison lowered their previous best 54-hole score on the Penn State Blue Course by eight shots. They compiled a 931 there in 2019.
The Bison will now look to keep their strong play going at the Bucknell Invitational next Saturday and Sunday.
