LEWISBURG, Pa. – After posting a 7-2 non-conference record, the Bucknell volleyball team continued its strong start into Patriot League play with a three-set sweep of Lehigh before a spirited Family Weekend crowd at Davis Gym. Sarina Singer led all players with 14 kills while hitting a robust .545, and the Bison rolled by set scores of 25-16, 26-24, 25-16.
Bri Frazilus added 11 kills and paced Bucknell's stellar serving performance with four of the team's nine aces. Catherine Jamison tallied nine kills and hit .412, and libero Jordan Hardy was all over the floor with 23 digs in the three-set affair.
Megan Schulte tallied a team-high 10 kills for Lehigh, which started the season 8-3 but is now 0-2 in Patriot League play after falling 3-1 to Lafayette on Friday night.
Amanda Tesserot joined in on Bucknell's strong serving day, presiding over big runs in the first and third sets. She served five straight points as part of a 6-0 run that flipped an early 3-2 deficit into an 8-3 lead in the opening set. The Bison led by at least three points the rest of the way. Frazilus had back-to-back aces midway through the set, and then three straight blocks, with Allie Lopez having a hand in all of them, brought it to set point. Frazilus closed it out with a kill, as the Bison hit .320 in the set-one win.
The second set was the closest of the day, with 16 ties and five lead changes along the way. Neither team led by more than two points in the frame, which was tied at 15, 16, 17, 18, 20, 21, 22, 23, and 24. Lehigh staved off a set point with a Schulte kill, but at 24-all setter Caleigh O'Connell recorded a kill followed by a Mountain Hawks' attack error.
The third set was tied at 6-6 when Tesserot toed the service line, and she sparked another 5-0 Bison run that was highlighted by two straight kills from Singer and one from O'Connell. Lehigh fought back to tie the set at 13-all on a Schulte kill, but Laura Caro and the Bison reeled off the next seven points in a row. A kill from Valentina Feigl gave Bucknell a commanding 20-13 lead, and moments later Bucknell fittingly closed out the match with a service ace, this one from Libby Nieporte.
Bucknell hit a season-best .282 in the match and outkilled Lehigh 44-27. The Bison also had a 48-36 edge in digs, and setters Caro (19) and O'Connell (17) combined for 36 of the team's 41 assists.
