About the Bison

Bucknell continues a busy week at the Nittany Lion Invitational on Saturday and Sunday. The Bison just played a Monday-Tuesday 54-hole tournament at William & Mary, and Bucknell's top four players from that event are back in action this weekend.
Paige Richter, Kelsey Yi, Tara Thomas, and Kayla Yi will all be playing in their second competition of the week, while Viveka Kurup will make her 2022-23 debut.
First-year head coach Laura Tyler-Cook saw some good scores from her group at Kingsmill, most notably an opening-round 73 from the freshman Richter in her collegiate debut and a career-best 74 from Kelsey Yi in the final round.
Bucknell counted three scores in the 70s in each round, and the team's 931 total (309-314-308) over 54 holes was the team's best ever on the River Course at Kingsmill and tied for the 11th-best in team history. It was also the third-best 54-hole score in a fall season-opener, with the only two better coming on the team's home course at the Bucknell Invitational.
Richter finished T-19th in a field of 60 players, and her 36 pars were tied for eighth-most in the field.
Kelsey Yi was 2-under over her final eight holes of the tournament, and she finished T-23rd with a career-best 228 total (78-76-74).
This is the 25th season for the Bison women's golf program, which debuted in 1998-99. Tyler-Cook is the fourth head coach in team history, following Brad Tufts, Kevin Jamieson, and Lisa Francisco.

Bucknell has appeared in Penn State's annual fall event in 16 of the last 19 years, with the 2020 edition canceled due to the pandemic. Bucknell's best finish here was sixth place out of 14 teams in 2006.
The Bison had a memorable second round at Penn State in 2010. Led by a school-record, 3-under 69 from then-freshman Bridget Wilcox, the Bison posted a school-record 296 team score. Wilcox's 69 and the team's 296 were both the best in the 17-team field that day, and both numbers remain team records.
Bucknell placed 14th in last season's event, which was moved to the Penn State White Course rather than the traditional Blue track. Sahana Paravantavida was Bucknell's low finisher with a 233 (80-76-77). Cristina Canales started well with rounds of 75-77 on day one before finishing with an 87.
Penn State is the defending champion. The Nittany Lions totaled 851 last year to outdistance runner-up Delaware by 12 shots. Penn State's Mathilde Delavallade posted a 10-under 206 (69-68-69) to earn medalist honors by three strokes over Delaware's Oihana Etxezarreta and Princeton's Yanjun Liu.
