Bucknell Men's Water Polo Hosts Bucknell Invite this Weekend

LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell University men's water polo team is set for its first home contests of the 2022 season when it hosts the annual Bucknell Invite at Kinney Natatorium.

- Bucknell returns to action this weekend at home for the first time since November 7 of last season, when it took a 16-8 win over Johns Hopkins in the final game at Kinney Natatorium of the regular season.
- Bucknell will take on the Blue Jays once more this weekend, opening a stretch of four games in Kinney Natatorium in its annual Bucknell Invite.
- The Bison went 2-2 in last year's Bucknell Invitational, dropping its first two MAWPC contests against Fordham and Wagner before rebounding with wins over St. Francis Brooklyn and Salem.
- Bucknell will take on the Rams and Seahawks once more this weekend, with three MAWPC games scheduled in Lewisburg on either side of an 8 a.m. Sunday matchup against McKendree.
- Bucknell has managed at least a .500 record in MAWPC games in each season since the 2012 season, and has also had a winning record in home games each season since 2005. Since 2013, the Bison are 74-14 in games at Kinney Natatorium, including three seasons in which the Bison were unbeaten in Lewisburg.
- Bucknell went 1-2 this past weekend, falling to No. 10 Princeton and St. Francis Brooklyn, before rebounding on Sunday with a 16-9 win over Cal Lutheran.
- Bucknell started two different lineups over the weekend, with Ian Shultz and Jack Murad both making starts as first-years. The starts for Murad were the first of his career. Murad, a native of Stanford, California, also scored in each of the three games he appeared in over the weekend, including a goal in overtime against the Terriers.
- Andu Vlasceanu made his season debut over the weekend, scoring three goals against the Tigers and adding a brace against Cal Lutheran over the weekend.
- Aleksa Stefanovic continued his strong start to his first season in Orange and Blue, scoring multiple goals in each of his first seven appearances for the Bison, including a season-best four in the win over Cal Lutheran on Sunday. Stefanovic leads the team with 15 goals this season, while Hasan Mogultay (9) and Ethan Jones (8) are next on the list. 14 Bison have managed to score a goal this season.
- The Bison defeated Johns Hopkins in the last matchup between the two teams, with ten Bison registering points in the win. Adrien Touzot allowed just one goal in one half of play, while Jack Lewis, Matt Ryckman, Vlasceanu, Doruk Ozar, and Shay Gillearn each scored multiple goals in the victory.
- The Bison went 1-2 against Wagner last season, falling 14-11 at the Bucknell Invite before rebounding with a 9-5 win at Kinney Natatorium just over a week later. The two teams also met in the first round of the MAWPC Tournament in Annapolis, with Wagner overturning an early 4-0 Bison lead to take an 8-7 win. Hasan Mogultay scored twice in the defeat for the Bison in the postseason. A. Touzot set a new career high in saves in the setback, stopping 19 shots in a defensive battle between the two teams.
- Fordham, last year's MAWPC Champion, defeated Bucknell in two close contests last season. The Rams took down Bucknell 13-9 in Lewisburg, before defeating the Bison in overtime, 14-13, in the Bronx later on that season. Lewis led the Bison with three goals in the home defeat, while Vlasceanu chipped in three assists.
- Bucknell will take on McKendree for the first time in program history on Sunday.
- After this weekend's contests, the Bison will head to Erie, Pennsylvania for four games, including a rematch with McKendree. Bucknell is scheduled for two games against Salem and McKendree on Saturday, September 24 before taking on Mercyhurst and Gannon on Sunday, September 25.
