Whittaker, Dinant Earn Weekly Honors

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Samuel Whittaker and Trent Dinant each earned Patriot League weekly honors, the league office announced on Tuesday afternoon. Whittaker was named the Patriot League Male Runner of the Week, while Trent Dinant earned Patriot League Rookie of the Week honors. Whittaker was also named the Bison Athlete of the Week, the first Bison of the Week honoree for the men's cross country program since Drew Dorflinger earned the distinction on November 3, 2019.
Whittaker continued his strong start to the season at the Siena Invite over the weekend, finishing third at the meet. The senior began the season with a convincing win in a field of Patriot League competitors at the Bison Open before his excellent showing in a strong field in New York.
Whittaker trailed only Elias Lindgren, the Division III runner-up in 2021, and another DIII All-American in Matthew Lecky of RPI in finishing in the top three in the field of 191. The triumvirate was 26 seconds ahead of the next pack of runners at the meet.
Dinant earns his first weekly honor after a strong showing on Saturday, finishing 25th as Bucknell's fourth scoring runner. Dinant also placed high at the Bison Open, finishing third behind Whittaker at the meet. The native of State College was one of five Bison scorers who all finished in the top 30 in helping Bucknell take fourth as a team at the meet.
Bucknell will have this weekend off before returning to competition on Friday, September 23 at the Boston College Invite.
