Colorado College Rallies Past Bucknell Women’s Soccer, 2-1

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Sophomore Reese Evans recorded her first career goal late in the first half, but Colorado College tallied twice in the second stanza to defeat Bucknell 2-1 in non-league women's soccer action Friday night at Stewart Field.
The Bison (1-1) suffered their first defeat of the 2022 season, while the Tigers won their home opener to improve to 2-1 on the campaign thanks to second-half goals from Josie Morales and Kaelin Enga.
It was an evenly played first half, with Bison goalkeeper Kaylee Donnelly keeping the game scoreless with a couple of tough saves. She made a close-range stop on Haley Williams in the 33rd minute, and then only five minutes later the substitute Evans got the Bison on the board. Colorado College had trouble clearing out of its own area, and Evans fired home the loose ball to open her collegiate account.
Colorado native Abby Gearhart nearly made it 2-0 in the 57th minute when she cleanly picked the pocket of a defender and broke in on goal, but No. 2 goalkeeper Zahra Cheesman made the save. That was big for the Tigers, who drew level about two minutes later when Morales headed home an Ava Risser corner kick at the back post.
In the 69th minute, freshman Meghan White sent in classmate Henna Andican, but the play was broken up from behind by a Tigers defender despite pleas for a penalty. Teresa Deda forced a diving save from Cheesman in the 72nd minute, and once again Colorado College responded to a key save with a goal.
This time it was Enga finishing in the center of the box off a pass from Williams, and the Bison trailed for the first time all season.
Bucknell had one late opportunity on a free kick about 28 yards from goal after a hand ball, but Lea Tarzy's curling attempt went over the bar in the final 20 seconds.
It was an even stat sheet, with both teams logging 16 shot attempts. Bucknell led 6-5 in corner kicks. Donnelly tallied seven saves, while Colorado College's goalkeeper tandem combined for six.
