
Volleyball Opens Season with 3-1 Win Over Bellarmine at Red Flash Classic

LORETTO, Pa. – The Bucknell volleyball team opened its 2022 season with a 3-1 win over Bellarmine at the Red Flash Classic in Loretto, Pa. on Friday. After dropping the opening set, the Bison found their groove and won three sets in a row to begin the season 1-0.
Three Bison finished with double-digit kills, including a team-high 14 from freshman Bri Frazilus. Frazilus also posted 16 digs for a double-double in her first collegiate match. Junior Catherine Jamison (12 kills) and junior Valentina Feigl (10 kills) also put together strong offensive performances, as each finished with hitting percentages above .300.
Defensively, junior Allie Lopez supplied five block assists and one block solo, while sophomore Jordan Hardy paced the team with 20 digs.
Bucknell led 5-2 early in the first set, but neither team gained separation until a 5-1 Knights run put the Bison in a 21-16 hole. Bucknell responded and cut the deficit to 22-19, however, Bellarmine held on to grab a 1-0 advantage in the match with a 25-21 win.
The Bison came away victorious in the next three sets by narrow margins of 25-22, 25-21 and 25-23.
A 5-0 Bison run, which included two of Hardy's three service aces in the match, put Bucknell up 19-14 in the second. The set also saw Feigl record four of her 10 kills while committing no attack errors, as Bucknell evened the match at 1-1 with a Sarina Singer kill to end the frame.

The Bison were at their best in the third set, opening with a 4-0 lead and posting a .275 hitting percentage while registering five total blocks. Jamison came on strong in the third with seven kills and hitting .462. Bucknell cruised to a 25-21 win after negating a 5-0 Bellarmine run midway through.

After falling behind 5-1 early in the fourth, Bucknell rallied and used a 4-0 run to even things up and later took the lead for good with another 4-0 run to go up 18-16. Bellarmine kept battling and scored twice while the Bison were at match-point, but Jamison supplied the final kill to seal the contest.
Other notable performances included a match-high 41 assists by freshman Laura Caro as well as nine kills and 13 digs by senior Sarina Singer. Senior Camryn Anderson also supplied a career-high three block assists with three kills.
Bucknell resumes play at the Red Flash Classic with matches against Gardner-Webb and Saint Francis on Saturday. The Bison begin the day against the Runnin' Bulldogs at 1:30 p.m.
