WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The Bucknell men's track & field team completed day two of the IC4A outdoor championships on Saturday and added to its point total with a strong finish in the 5000 by junior Samuel Whittaker.
Whittaker earned All-East Status in the 5000, running the fifth-fastest time in program history (14:13.26). It was also the fastest time run by a Bison in the past 37 years, and it was his second straight personal-best after he scored in the event with a third-place finish at the Patriot League championships.
"I was very pleased with our men today. Our two sprinters in the 100 ran well and were close to making finals. Martin just missed scoring in the steeple and finished ninth, but the event of the day was Whittaker in the 5k, who ran a nice PR and placed fifth with the fifth fastest time in school history," said head coach Kevin Donner. "He has had a tremendous last three weeks. Looking forward to getting some more points tomorrow."
Matthew Perello ran a strong 100 as well, but his 10.76 put him 12th and outside the finals. Additionally, Braden Stryker placed 10th in the shot put (47-3).
Noah Martin posted a 9:25.60 in the 3000 steeplechase, and Brandon Foust added a 10.93 in the 100.
The Bison have nine points heading into the final day of competition on Sunday. Events begin at 11 a.m.
