Men’s Tennis Falls to Top-Seeded Navy in Patriot League Semifinals

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Bucknell men's tennis team was eliminated from the Patriot League Tournament by No. 1 seed and tournament host Navy in the semifinal round on Saturday morning. The Midshipmen prevailed by a 4-0 count to advance to Sunday's championship match against either Lehigh or Army.
The fourth-seeded Bison were back in action one day after a marathon 4-3 victory over Boston University on Friday. Navy, which swept Holy Cross in the quarterfinal round, improved to 31-10 overall this season and remained unbeaten (10-0) against Patriot League foes. Bucknell's season ends with a 10-17 record and a 5-4 mark against league opponents, including the postseason.
Navy won the doubles point with a pair of 6-0 verdicts, then clinched the match with straight-set wins in the bottom three singles matches. Harrison Gold, Nick Mueller, and Tim Zelikovsky were all locked up in tight battles in the top three spots when the match was clinched.
Gold dropped the first set 6-3 to Derrick Thompson be led 5-4 in the second. Mueller took the first set from Gavin Segraves and was down 5-2 in the second. Zelikovsky, whose active 15-match singles winning streak included a win at Navy earlier in the year, was 2-2 in the second set against Finn Garner after dropping the opening set 6-4.
Zelikovsky finishes the season with a 22-7 singles record. The 22 wins are tied for 10th-most in a season in team history.
