Women's Tennis Topples Lehigh, 6-1

LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell women's tennis team toppled rival Lehigh, 6-1, on Saturday in its first dual match of the season at the Varsity Tennis Courts.
The Bison (10-6, 1-1 PL) earned their first Patriot League victory in commanding fashion, taking five of six singles matches and claiming the doubles point over the Mountain Hawks (4-7, 1-3 PL).
Senior captain Daniela Bellini moved to 2-0 in Patriot League action with a 6-1, 6-3 decision over Hamsa Javagal on the top singles court. She also teamed with Whitney King for a 6-0 shutout of Javagal and Junmoke James at first doubles; their decisive triumph improved their season record to a sterling 18-3.
First year Anna Lajos secured her first career Patriot League win, dispatching Megha Dania on the third court, 6-3, 6-3. She moved to 16-4 overall, tying fellow first-year star King for the team lead in victories.
Laurel Utterback and Kate Novak also won their singles matches. In the fourth spot, Utterback cruised past Anushka Dania, 6-2, 6-1. Novak pulled out a hard-fought 6-2, 4-6, 10-6 decision over Brenda Cuadra on the fifth court.
Lehigh forfeited at sixth singles and third doubles. This was Bucknell's second-straight victory over its rival; last season, the Bison snapped a five-match losing slide to the Mountain Hawks with their 4-2 win in the quarterfinals of the Patriot League Championships.
Bucknell is right back to work tomorrow, hosting Colgate at 10 a.m. at the Central PA Tennis Center in South Williamsport, Pa.
