LUBBOCK, Texas – Sophomore Anthony Sherwin has been named to the top 100 shortstops for the Brooks Wallace Award watch list.
The award honors the nation's top shortstop named for former Texas Tech shortstop Brooks Wallace. The reward honors outstanding defensive play as well as prowess at the plate.
Sherwin is one of three Patriot League players nominated along with Kevin Dubrule of Army and Tyler Young of Lehigh. The sophomore has enjoyed a breakout campaign for the Orange and Blue, being named Bison of the Week earlier this season after a tremendous weekend against Navy. Sherwin ranks seventh in the Patriot League in batting average (.339), first in runs scored (32), fourth in hits (39), and fourth in on-base percentage (39). The native of Harrison City, Pa. has nearly doubled his hits this season (39) as his freshman campaign (20) in the same amount of games started.
Defensively, Sherwin has been excellent at shortstop this year, posting a fielding percentage of .973. Sherwin has helped turn the most double play in the Patriot League this season with 19, and has been a day one starter at the position for the Bison, starting 60 of 61 games so far in his career.
Bucknell takes on Villanova on Tuesday at 3 p.m. before traveling to Holy Cross for three games this weekend.
