WILLIAMSBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell men's track & field team completed day one of the Colonial relays on Friday and is currently in seventh place among 34 teams in attendance. Bucknell scored in four different championship section events, totaling 21 points. Bucknell also saw several top five finishes in the unseeded university event sections.
Leading off a slew of fourth-place finishes was Ethan Wolford-Tuffy in the 400. The sophomore ran a 48.32 to land ninth on Bucknell's all-time top 10 list and contribute five points to the Bison effort. Wolford-Tuffy now ranks top 10 in both the indoor and outdoor 400 race. Also running a solid 400 on Friday was Rayven Sample, who finished 14th with a 49.16.
Noah Martin grabbed five points for Bucknell with a 9:20.69 steeplechase to finish fourth. He was less than a second behind the third-place finisher from Christopher Newport.
Anthony Zamarra grabbed the highest point total for Bucknell on Friday, securing six with a fourth-place finish in the shot put with a 51-10.5. Also scoring in a throwing event was Robert Feeney, who grabbed fourth place in the hammer throw with a 175-30.
Finishing top of the pack in the university section of the high jump was Grant Ellis, who cleared a personal-best 6-7.5. John Calisi was second overall in the university section's hammer throw (159-7), and Alex Simpson took fifth in the university section of the 800, running a 1:55.31
"It was a solid first day for our men. Although he doesn't get the points, Ellis was fantastic as he won the unseeded high jump in 6-7.5, and our throwers Feeney and Zamarra placed high with nice marks," said head coach Kevin Donner. "Wolford-Tuffy and Zamarra ran great 400s, as they have picked up where they left off this indoor season, and Martin ran a great steeplechase. We have all six relays entered, and the guys should have a lot of fun on day two."
The meet wraps up on Saturday with events beginning at 9 a.m.
