About the Bison
• Bucknell men's track & field heads to the annual Colonial Relays for its first scored meet of the 2022 outdoor season. It will be the Bison's first appearance at the meet since 2019 when it placed second out of 38 teams. Bucknell was in first after day one of the meet last time around.
• Bucknell opened its outdoor season last weekend at the Navy Spring Invite and the Jim Taylor Invite at Susquehanna. The Bison saw a number of athletes finish in top three spots, including a win in the javelin by first-year Trevor Drescher. It was Drescher's first collegiate event, and he beat out 11 other competitors with a 185-6.
• Bucknell also captured second-place finishes in the 200 and the 400. Kevin Boyle took second in the 200 (22.67) while running a personal-best 11.21 in the 100 to place fifth. Rayven Sample's 50.86 earned him a second-place finish in the 400, and he took fifth in the 200.
• Also placing in the top three was Anthony Zamarra in the shot put with a 51-0.75.
• Three other Bison placed fifth overall in individual events, including the 400 hurdles, the high jump and the triple jump.
• Bucknell's relay teams posted strong performances in the opening weekend as well, as both the 4x100 and the 4x400 teams grabbed third overall.
• Notable finishes at the nearby Jim Taylor Invite included a fifth-place finish by Jeffery Gibbs in the steeplechase (9:58.01) and a sixth-place spot for John Calisi in the hammer throw (162-0).
• Bucknell won five events in total between its men's and women's teams at the 2019 Colonial Relays, including a win in the men's pole vault. The William & Mary team won the meet in 2019.
Coach Donner's Take
"The last time we attended this great meet was in 2019. Our seniors were freshmen at the time. This meet is one of our staple meets. I love the team concept, since it's a scored meet and they have all the non-traditional relays on day two. We are taking a large group and will try to run a team in every relay. It gets many of our athletes in the track doubling or even tripling over two days, which is great preparation for our league meet next month. It looks like good weather as well, as we should see modest improvement from our meet at Navy last week. It's a great meet to watch our field event athletes and our running event athletes really come together as a group."
