BOSTON, Mass. – Bucknell women's track & field wrapped up the Saturday portion of the ECAC Indoor Championships, finding success in its field events and seeing some athletes set new personal bests at the Boston Track & Tennis Center. The Bison currently sit in eighth place at the meet with nine points.
"We brought a lot of women, which is a great thing. Although we had some ups and downs, the experience is outstanding for our younger athletes, and we did have some outstanding highlights," said head coach Kevin Donner. "Macones and Gaughan both scored in the long jump, and Hull was fifth in the high jump. Quinn ran a great PR in the 200, and our 400 runners all set PRs. Castellano's time moved her higher on our top 10 list. I was very pleased with Bellucci in the 5k with a 12 second PR, and our 4x400 relays advanced to tomorrow's finals with Lalonde running a huge anchor leg."
Sophomore Karen Hull posted the highest finish for the Bison on Saturday, taking fifth in the high jump and tying her personal best by clearing 5-5. She grabbed four points for the Orange & Blue in the event. Hull also advanced past the prelims in the 60m hurdles with an 8.77 but did not make it out of the semis.
Bucknell also scored points in the long jump, as senior Gianna Macones and sophomore Lila Gaughan both placed in the top eight. Macones posted an 18-6.5 to take sixth, and Gaughan took seventh with an 18-1.75, combining for five points.
Three Bison set personal bests in the 400, and junior Jessie Castellano climbed higher on Bucknell's top 10 list with an outstanding showing in the event. Castellano finished 16th overall, missing out on a trip to the finals, but her 56.96 moves her from eighth to sixth all-time in the Bucknell record books. Fellow juniors Bridget Lalonde and Mikayla Horvath also ran personal-best times, placing 20th (57.47) and 26th (58.34), respectively.
Meghan Quinn's impressive 200 time of 25.01 beats her previous best (25.20) and ranks seventh all-time. The mark comes just a week after she captured a win in the 60m at last weekend's Patriot League Championships.
Bucknell's 4x400 relay team (Mackenzie Turner, Castellano, Horvath, Lalonde) qualified for the finals with a 3:50.26, placing seventh in the prelims. Lalonde ran a 55.41 split in the fourth position, and the unit was just .09 seconds behind sixth-place Wagner.
Junior Mia Bellucci, who just ran a personal-best (17:40.80) in the 5000 at last week's league championships, beat her mark with a 17:29.82 to take 15th on Saturday. Also notable was a 2:53.94 by Karly Forker in the 1000, as the senior just missed qualifying for the finals at ninth overall.
The Bison resume competition at the ECACs on Sunday, and field events begin at 9:30 a.m. with the shot put. The 4x400 finals are scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m.
