BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Bucknell's Rich O'Halloran was voted as the Patriot League GEICO Goalie of the Week, the league office announced Monday afternoon.
In addition, the freshman was recognized as the Bison Athlete of the Week. These are the first two weekly awards of his collegiate career.
O'Halloran played a key role in the Bucknell men's lacrosse team's 14-6 victory over Colgate, turning aside 14 of 20 shots sent on net (.700 save percentage). Notably, the Bison held the Raiders to six or fewer goals for the first time since 2011; that season, then No. 12 Bucknell dispatched then No. 16 Colgate, 10-3, in the Patriot League Championship game.
O'Halloran matched his career-high total in saves, set the pervious weekend during his first career start at then No. -/20 Loyola. His victory was the second of his career; he entered the Penn State game in relief and stopped 10 shots to help the Bison earn a 12-11 win.
O'Halloran joins fellow freshman Max Nolan as the second Bison to earn Patriot League Goalie of the Week accolades this season; Nolan was previously recognized for making 10 saves in Bucknell's season-opening victory at Mercer.
O'Halloran joins another freshman, standout attackman Connor Davis, as the second Bison to be honored as the Bison Athlete of the Week this school year. Davis captured this award following the first of three times he matched the school record in single-game goals by a freshman (6). Before Davis, the last men's lacrosse players to receive this award were Lukas Munoz (March 19), Will Sands (March 26) and Sean O'Brien (April 9) during the 2018 team's run to its Patriot League regular-season title and a 11-4 (7-1 PL) record.
O'Halloran and the Bison return to action on Saturday, April 2 with a 1 p.m. home game against No. 13 Army West Point. The Black Knights will be their highest ranked opponent of the campaign to date.
