About the Bison
• The Bucknell women's track & field team opens its outdoor season this weekend with two meets at different locations. Some athletes will be attending the Jim Taylor Invite, hosted by Susquehanna University, which begins with just a few events on Friday and continues into Saturday. Others will travel to the Navy Invite in Annapolis.
• Bucknell placed fourth out of 10 at the Patriot League Indoor Championships just three and a half weeks ago and took 14th overall at the ECAC Indoor Championships. Bucknell also earned a first overall team finish at the Gulden Invite at home in January.
• The Bison have seven meets over six weekends leading up to the 2022 Outdoor Patriot League Championships, which take place on Friday, May 6 and Saturday, May 7. Bucknell placed third at the 2021 outdoor championships.
• Highlighting Bucknell's appearance at the indoor league championships was sophomore Meghan Quinn, who took gold in the 60m dash with her 7.63 to rank second all-time in school history. She also cracked the top 10 in the 200.
• Bucknell ended the indoor season with an impressive showing in the 4x00 as the team placed third overall at the ECAC meet with a 3:45.80, which is fourth all-time. The relay team was comprised of all juniors.
• One junior on the 4x400 was Jessie Castellano, who also made a mark on Bucknell's top 10 list with her 56.96 in the 400m dash to rank fifth. Castellano was one of many Bison that made a dent in the school record book over the indoor season.
• Sophomore Karen Hull posted multiple top 10 marks over the winter, including the second-best 60m hurdles time (8.74) and the 10th-best height in the high jump (5-5). Hull placed fifth in high jump at the ECAC Indoor Championships.
• Elsewhere in the field, the Bison excelled in pole vault during indoors. Rookie Karly Renn cleared 12-5.5 to finish third in the Patriot League Championships and rank second on the school's top 10 list. Meanwhile, junior Jennifer Scott placed fourth at the championships and sits tied for fourth in indoors with a 12-1.5.
• One of the most improved Bison during the indoor season was sophomore Siobhan O'Sullivan, who took fourth in shot put at the league championships and now ranks fifth in the event in the record book.
• Two seniors enter the outdoor season following record-breaking efforts during indoors. Ashlyn Ramos broke the school's indoor 5000 record up at Boston in February with her 16:39.00, and Michaela Bracken set a new standard twice in the pentathlon. Bracken recorded a school-best 3,750 points while taking third in the event at the Patriot League Championship.
Coach Donner's Take
"We are always excited to get the outdoor season rolling, and although the coaches are not concerned with times and distances because of the layoff, having three other Patriot League teams including the defending champions in Navy at the meet puts the stakes a bit higher than a normal early-season rust buster," said head coach Kevin Donner. "The league meet is at Navy, and we want to familiarize ourselves with the facility, the surroundings, and of course compete against good competition. We are also taking some athletes to Susquehanna, and this gives everyone on our team an opportunity to get in an early-season rust buster and opportunities to compete, which is an important part of our program. This will give the athletes an opportunity to prove themselves to make a travel squad for next week's Colonial Relays at William & Mary.
