Four Bucknell Swimmers Make Academic All-PL Team

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Four Bucknell swimmers were voted to the 2022 Academic All-Patriot League Team, the league office announced Thursday morning.
On the women's side, 2022 All-Patriot League First Team selections Catherine Craig, Maddie Hartigan and Sabrina Vumbacco all garnered academic honors. Liam Pitt, a 2022 All-Patriot League Second Team honoree, represented the men's squad on this prestigious team.
Hartigan, a senior psychology major, won gold medals in the 500 freestyle and the 1,650 freestyle at this year's Patriot League Championships. In addition, she captured a bronze medal in the 200 freestyle and was a member of the silver medalist 400 freestyle and 800 freestyle relay teams.
Hartigan will graduate as an eight-time Patriot League individual medalist; she previously earned one gold in the 1,650 freestyle (2019), two silvers in the 500 freestyle (2020, 2019), one silver in the 1,650 freestyle (2020) and one bronze in the 200 freestyle (2020).
Hartigan, a three-time All-Patriot League First Team member, made her second-straight Academic All-Patriot League squad. She is the seventh member of the Bison women's swimming & diving team to be selected to this team multiple times, joining Kelly Pontecorvo '13, Elizabeth Porcellio '13, Tara Boyle '15, Lauren Perry '15, Rachel Perry '17 and Julianna Foss '18.
Craig, a junior economics major, earned a bronze medal in the 400 IM and placed fourth in the 200 breaststroke and sixth in the 100 breaststroke at the 2022 Patriot League championship meet. She previously earned a spot on the 2020 All-Patriot League Second Team.
Craig is an Economic Research Assistant at Bucknell and has completed internships with Foremost Family Health Center and SEPAC, Inc., a manufacturer of clutches and brakes for numerous applications. She was also a lifeguard for the borough of Mansfield.
Vumbacco, a junior psychology major, captured a silver medal in the 1,650 freestyle and a bronze medal in the 500 freestyle at this season's Patriot League Championships. Like Hartigan, she was also a member of the silver medalist 800 freestyle relay squad. In 2020, she joined Craig on the All-Patriot League Second Team.
Vumbacco, also the Rookie of the 2020 Patriot League Championships, is a four-time Patriot League individual medalist; she previously captured bronze in the 500 freestyle and the 1,650 freestyle as a first year.
Pitt, a senior accounting & financial management major, finished sixth in both the 50 freestyle and 100 butterfly and 13th in the 100 freestyle at the 2022 Patriot League championship meet. He was also a member of the bronze medalist 200 medley relay team. In total, he swam on three Bison relay teams that broke school records over the course of the four-day meet.
Pitt interned for ParetoHealth, an employee benefits self-insurance captive solution for small and mid-sized employers. He also served as an assistant swim coach for the West Chester Golf and Country Club.
