Women's Tennis Blanks Niagara, 7-0

WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. – The Bucknell women's tennis team blanked Niagara, 7-0, on Saturday night at the Village Glen Tennis Courts.
The Bison moved to 2-0 (0-0 PL) on the young season with their shutout of the Purple Eagles (0-4, 0-0 MAAC). It was their fourth whitewashing of an opponent in Tammy Cecchini's tenure as head coach; they previously blanked St. Bonaventure in 2021 and Wagner and La Salle in 2020.
Senior captain Daniela Bellini was a decisive 6-4, 6-3 victor over 2021 All-MAAC performer Elena Mayet at first singles. Tyne Miller knocked off Niagara's other All-MAAC honoree, Jaida Borg, at third singles by a commanding 6-1, 6-1 margin.
Whitney King moved to a sterling 10-1 on her rookie campaign with a 6-3, 6-2 decision over Megan Gamble at second singles. Her fellow first year, Anna Lajos, improved to an unbeaten 7-0 with her 6-2, 6-2 triumph over Mercedes Velasco at fifth singles.
Laurel Utterback was a 6-2, 6-0 winner over Erika Gonzalez at fourth singles. Madi Sebulsky pulled out a hard-fought 3-6, 6-4, 10-7 victory over Madigan Humiston at sixth singles to seal the shutout for her team.
Bucknell locked in the doubles point with three victories. Bellini and King moved to 10-1 at first doubles with their 6-3 triumph over Mayet and Gamble. Miller and Utterback claimed a 6-4 decision at second doubles while Lajos teamed with Kate Novak for a 7-6 triumph at third doubles.
The Bison are right back to work tomorrow afternoon, squaring off with Buffalo at 12:30 p.m. at the Miller Tennis Center.
