SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Bucknell women's tennis team was clipped by IUP, 4-3, on Sunday at the Central PA Tennis Center.
The Crimson Hawks (4-2, 0-0 PSAC), who are ranked 19th at the NCAA Division II level, snapped the Bison's (7-2, 0-0 PL) five-match winning streak by winning four of six singles matches. They clinched their team victory with a win on the third court.
Daniela Bellini's performance was a highlight for Bucknell. At first singles, she secured a 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 victory over Joanna Stralka. She also teamed with Whitney King for a 6-4 decision over Stralka and Natasha Munday on the first doubles court, improving their season record to an impressive 16-2.
Playing up one spot for the second time in three matches, first year Anna Lajos continued her winning ways with a 6-3, 6-3 triumph over Katy Graydon, an All-PSAC West First Teamer. She now boasts an impressive 13-1 record.
Lajos also partnered with Madi Sebulsky for a 6-4 victory over Laura Dunarova and Lydia Vlachou on the third doubles court, moving their season ledger to 6-1.
Every Bison but Bellini played up one spot against the Crimson Hawks. King, a fixture at second singles with a 15-2 record, did not compete.
Bucknell next hosts St. Bonaventure (March 5 at 2 p.m.) before traveling to Penn State (March 6 at 5 p.m.). Head coach Tammy Cecchini is a Penn State alumna. As a Nittany Lion, she played No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles for three seasons. The two-year team captain was also named the 1991 Atlantic 10 Freshman of the Year.
