ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Maddie Hartigan won a gold medal in the 100 freestyle on the ECAC Championships' final day, which wrapped up on Sunday at Lejeune Hall.
Hartigan, who previously won Patriot League gold in both the 500 freestyle and 1,650 freestyle, outraced the ECAC field with a time of 50.31. She also teamed with Sabrina Vumbacco, Kayla Lichtner and Kendall Luecke for a bronze showing in the 400 freestyle relay, the three-day meet's final event.
This is Hartigan's second ECAC gold in the 100 freestyle, as she previously won this event with a time of 50.77 at the 2020 rendition. Her latest gold came in her final individual race of her decorated collegiate career.
The Bucknell women's swimming & diving team ultimately finished fourth with 264.5 points. James Madison (695), host Navy (642.5) and Penn (462) were the top three teams.
On Sunday, six Bison beyond Hartigan qualified for the finals. That group included 400 freestyle relay members Vumbacco, who took 11th in the 200 butterfly, and Lichtner, who went 12th in the 100 freestyle.
Bucknell concluded another successful campaign at the ECAC Championships. The Bison finished second at the Patriot League Championships and went 9-1 (7-1 PL) in dual meet competition. Notably, the class of 2022—Hartigan, Lindsey Bloom, Alexis Faria, Meagan Hathaway, Caroline Mayk, Isabella Smith and Meghan Taner—will graduate having gone a remarkable 30-3 (23-3 PL) in dual meets, its only losses coming to defending Patriot League champion Navy. The seniors also helped Bucknell finish as the runner-up at two of the three Patriot League Championships contested during their time in Lewisburg.
Though the Bison will lose eight-time Patriot League individual medalist Hartigan to graduation, they will return their other five 2022 All-Patriot League picks next season, a group that includes medalists Vumbacco, Catherine Craig and Abby Doss.
