The Bison move to 7-1 on the young season
SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Bucknell women's tennis team dispatched Saint Francis, 6-1, on Saturday at the Central PA Tennis Center.
The Bison (7-1, 0-0 PL) extended their winning streak to five matches with their victory over the Red Flash (5-6, 0-0 NEC). It also represented their third triumph by five or more points.
At second singles, first year Whitney King improved to 15-2 with a hard-fought three-set decision over Bente Vandeputte. After dropping the first set, 6-2, King rallied to win the next two by 6-2 and 10-3 margins.
Laurel Utterback returned to the lineup with an impressive 6-1, 6-1 triumph over Valeria Vinces on the fourth court. First year Anna Lajos vaulted to 12-1 with a 6-3, 7-5 victory over Nagisa Miyake at fifth singles.
Kate Novak defeated Marie Discini, 6-2, 7-5, in the sixth spot. On the first court, Daniela Bellini was up 6-3, 1-0 when All-NEC honoree Dominique Yeo retired.
King and Bellini were as impressive as always at first doubles, scoring a 6-3 decision over Yeo and Anouk Ma-Ajong. They are now 15-2 on the season. Lajos and Madi Sebulsky moved to 5-1 with their 6-4 victory over Vandeputte and Vinces on the third court.
King and Lajos will each ride a five-match winning streak into tomorrow's 2 p.m. tilt with IUP at the Central PA Tennis Center.
