Captain Daniela Bellini clinches team win with three-set victory
LATHAM, N.Y. – The Bucknell women's tennis team clipped Bryant, 4-3, on Saturday afternoon at Tri-City Fitness.
Senior captain Daniela Bellini clinched the Bison's (5-1, 0-0 PL) victory over the 2021 NEC runner-up Bulldogs (2-2, 0-0 NEC) with a three-set decision at first singles over 2021 All-NEC First Team selection Ada Boru.
After dropping the first set, 6-4, Bellini rallied to win the next two by 6-2 and 10-3 margins. Her doubles partner, Whitney King, moved to 13-2 on the season with a 6-0, 6-4 victory over Leanne Kendall on the second court.
Anna Lajos vaulted to 10-1 on her rookie campaign with her 7-5, 6-1 triumph over 2021 All-NEC Rookie Team member Olivia Rondini at fifth singles. Kate Novak pulled out a hard-fought 6-0, 1-6, 12-10 victory over Manuela Gomez Estrada on the sixth court.
Bryant swept all three doubles matches. Boru and Kendall, 2021 All-NEC Doubles First Team honorees, handed Bellini and King only their second loss the season; they are now 13-2 overall.
The Bison return to action tomorrow at 12 p.m. by facing off against defending MAAC champion Siena.
