ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Bucknell's Chris Fabian and Chris Kopac each set a school record and won an individual medal on the third day of the Patriot League Championships.
Kopac, a freshman, was the silver medalist in the 200 freestyle, clocking a school-record time of 1:36.48. Fabian, a sophomore, captured a bronze medal in the 100 backstroke and broke the school record in the 100 butterfly (48.00).
Fabian also teamed with Justin DiSanto, Leo Kuyl and Liam Pitt to become the first Bison 200 freestyle relay team to clear 1:20. The quartet timed in at 1:19.94 en route to a fourth-place performance.
Through Friday's sessions at Lejeune Hall, the Bucknell men's swimming & diving team is in third place behind Navy (634.5) and Army West Point (517) with 394 points. The Bison were bolstered by qualifying seven for the 'A' finals and having three student-athletes earn victories in the consolation finals. In addition, they logged a staggering 12 program top-10 times in swimming races, with 10 being top-five showings.
Andy Dorsel (400 IM), Nick Haddad (100 backstroke) and Liam Pitt (100 butterfly) each took sixth in his respective event. Notably, Pitt broke Bucknell's school record in the 100 butterfly, which had stood since the 2014 ECAC Championships, with a time of 48.59 in the preliminaries. While Pitt matched his time in the 'A' finals, Fabian ultimately lowered the record to an even 48 seconds.
