The 2022-2023 Season Starts at the Bison Opener

LEWISBURG, Pa.-The Bucknell University men's track and field team returns to the field of competition as the indoor season commences at the Bison Opener on Friday, Dec. 2 and Saturday, Dec. 3.
What: Bison Opener
Where: Gerhard Fieldhouse, Lewisburg, Pa.
When: Friday, Dec. 2 – Saturday, Dec. 3
Participating teams: American University, Bloomsburg University, Bucknell University, Johns Hopkins, Lafayette College, Lock Haven University, Mount St. Mary's University, Penn State University, Shippensburg University, and Saint Francis University

"We have been practicing about 10-12 weeks now for this," said head coach Kevin Donner. "Our next meet isn't until January 14 so this gives us an idea of what team we are going to have in what events. Also, our kids, they want to compete. They have been practicing for a long time. We did have a Blue/Orange intrasquad meet but we want to compete against other teams to see where we are at."

The team has the chance to rest and sharpen their skills as the next competition will not be until January 14, 2023 at the Nittany Lion Challenge hosted by Penn State University.

About the Bison
- As per custom, Bucknell kicks off its indoor season with the Bison Opener. It is the first indoor event since the IC4A/ECAC Championships
- The Bison Opener will not be a scored meet.
- The meet starts with the men's heptathlon events on Friday evening, and the rest of the events restart Saturday morning with the 60m high hurdles.
- The Orange & Blue captured first place in six categories in last year's Bison Opener: 400m dash, 500m run, 800m run, 300m run, 4x400m relay, and shot put.
- The freshmen throwers, Keenan LaMontagne, Robert Lerner, Wade Shomper, and Hugh Straine, are expected to make their collegiate debuts.
- John Calisi, an All-East honoree in the weight throw, returns for his senior year.
- As a team, Bucknell finished fifth in the 2021-2022 Patriot League Indoor Championships.
- The Bison Opener is Bucknell's only meet until Jan. 14, 2023.
