LEWISBURG, Pa. – Four members of the Bucknell men's soccer team have earned spots on the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team. Junior co-captains MJ Kuczura and Collin Murphy, senior Jameson Railey, and sophomore Jack Roberto were all honored, and all four now advance to the national Academic All-America ballot, with those honorees slated to be announced in early December.
In order to be eligible for the honor, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.50 cumulative grade-point average and be a starter or key reserve while playing in at least 50 percent of the team's games.
All four of Bucknell's honorees were key contributors, with Kuczura and Murphy lining up as the starting wingbacks on the right and left sides, respectively. Kuczura is a two-year captain – in 2021 he became the first sophomore in team history to wear the captain's arm band – and three-year starter at outside back. This fall he scored his first career goal against Mount St. Mary's and also added two assists while starting 16 of the team's 17 games. Off the pitch, Kuczura has maintained a 3.61 GPA while majoring in economics.
This is not the first scholar-athlete award of the season for Murphy, who last week was one of 11 student-athletes named to the Academic All-Patriot League Team. The Richmond, Va., native has a 3.83 GPA in biomedical engineering, where he has worked as an Undergraduate Research Fellow in the computational neuromodulation lab. Murphy played in 15 games with 11 starts this fall, and he handed out assists against Patriot League foes Colgate and Holy Cross.
Railey is a senior business analytics major with a 3.77 GPA. During his Bucknell career, he served as Vice President of Fundraising for A-Team Advocates, which raised over $1,700 for Bridge of Hope. As a midfielder and defender, he played in 16 games for the Bison this season and 58 in his career. He tallied two goals as a Bison, both coming against league rival Holy Cross.
Roberto has earned a 3.92 GPA as a finance major within Bucknell's Freeman College of Management. He has served as an analyst in the Bison Finance Society and is one of the team's representatives on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. Roberto played in all 17 games this season and saw his minutes increase as the season progressed.
