Women’s Soccer Plays Army to Scoreless Draw on Senior Day

LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Patriot League women's soccer co-leaders put their defenses on display on Saturday afternoon at Emmitt Field, as Bucknell and Army West Point finished in a scoreless deadlock. The Bison and Black Knights both moved to 5-1-2 in league play and were jumped by Boston University after the Terriers won 3-1 at Loyola.
Now 8-5-3 overall, Bucknell posted its fourth straight shutout and is unbeaten in Patriot League play since losing to Navy in the first round of league action back on Sept. 16. Goalkeeper Jenna Hall tallied seven saves in Saturday's draw, and the Bison extended their scoreless streak to 390:31.
Sage Strohman tallied five saves for Army (7-4-6), including two tricky ones tipping high shots over the bar in the first half. She went up high to deflect Kenar Gelman's curler in the 12th minute, and she did the same on Teresa Deda six minutes later.
Hall's best save of the night came 10 minutes into the second half, when she had to leap to send Keira Vesy's shot grazing off the crossbar.
Both teams defended extremely well in the final third, with very few quality chances coming from inside the boxes. The Bison finished with a 14-11 shot advantage, with the last of their attempts coming when Abby Gearhart found a bit of space with 1:40 to play but shot wide.
Prior to the match, the Bison honored seniors Rylee Donaldson, Kaylee Donnelly, Leanne Engemann, Gearhart, Ashley Groeber, Alivia Handson, and Petie Nassetta.
The final regular-season match day comes up on Wednesday, with Bucknell hosting fourth-place Lehigh and Army traveling to new leader Boston University. The Bison have clinched a Patriot League Tournament berth but will be looking for a top-two seed to secure a bye into the semifinals.
