
Bucknell's Gehrig Earns PL Swimmer of the Week, Bison of the Week Honors

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Following a successful 2-0 opening weekend for the men's swimming & diving team, Bucknell junior John Gehrig was selected as the Patriot League Male Swimmer of the Week on Tuesday. Gehrig picked up wins in three individual events and was also part of Bucknell's 200 yard medley relay team that finished as runners-up on Saturday.
In addition to his first Patriot League honor of the season, Gehrig was named the Bison of the Week for the first time in his career.
Gehrig played a pivotal role in Bucknell's 208-90 win over Boston U. and its 154.5-145.5 victory against Loyola (Md.) He earned wins in the 200 butterfly (1:48.56), the 100 butterfly (48.27), and the 200 yard IM (1:51.15). The Charlotte, N.C., native also swam the butterfly leg of the 200 medley relay, posting a split of 22.18 to help the team finish second with an overall time of (1:31.69).
Gehrig's 100 butterfly time was 0.13 seconds off his career-high, which ranks second in program history, and his 200 butterfly was a little over two seconds behind his school record of 1:46.14 in the event.
In addition to Gehrig, Bucknell's Gina Hinthorn was named an honorable mention for Patriot League Female Diver of the Week after taking first in the 1-meter dive, and Sabrina Vumbacco was an honorable mention for Female Swimmer of the Week after winning both the 1000 freestyle and the 500 freestyle.
The Bison are back in action this weekend at Binghamton at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 2.
